Cover, Release Dates, and First Excerpt

My wonderful publisher at JMS Books LLC just sent me a copy of the cover for Angst, Anger, Love, Hope, my first full-length collection of poetry. I love this cover; it is exactly what I wanted. If you want to see it for yourself, just look at the top of the right-hand column.

The ebook will be released on November 14, and the print book will be released on November 30. The book will be available from the publisher and from Amazon, and possibly from other outlets as well. I will make all sales links available as I get them.

Meanwhile, please enjoy the first excerpt:

Stripped Poker

It takes five seconds to speak this fifteen-syllable sentence.‭ ‬Five seconds face to face is more than enough time to risk it all with naked gambling.

Deal:‭ ‬I killed someone ten years ago.
Deal:‭ ‬I'm HIV positive.
Deal:‭ ‬Are you having an affair‭?
Deal:‭ ‬I want you to leave me alone.
Deal:‭ ‬Will you marry me‭?

If you wanted to be generous with the other players,‭ ‬you could front them thirty seconds to react.‭ ‬Most people don't bluff well,‭ ‬so it might be to your advantage.‭ ‬You could even front them ten seconds to rake in their words and ten more to lay them down.

Five seconds to place your bet‭; ‬fifty seconds to win or lose.

Ante up.
Ante up your fig leaves and your silence and your pride.
I will spot you anything you ask,‭ ‬and‭
I will put all my money on your dignity.

I Just Signed the Contract

I'm getting a volume of my poetry published.

It doesn't feel real yet, but I'm perfectly happy to keep saying it until it sinks in.

No dates yet, but the title has been decided: Angst, Anger, Love, Hope.

I've Been Offered a Publishing Contract

I'm so excited! I've been offered a contract for a full-length poetry book. It will be released first as an ebook and later in print.

I do not know when either version of the book will be released. Right now I haven't seen the actual contract, just the sample, so I will supply more details later.

This Is So Important. Please Share.

You've probably read about this by now, but reading about it does not do it justice. So worth watching. Have a box of tissues handy.

Please share this, and please let LGBTQIA teens know about the Trevor Project.

So if I'm a Poet, Where Are the Poems?

As a place to find my poetry, this site hasn't yet been of much use. There's a reason for that.

I've been published in SubtleTea, A Little Poetry, Pen Himalaya, and other journals. The three sites listed are online journals and have my work archived and available for viewing.

At one time, I made some of my previously published poems available on MySpace. I intend to make some of my previously journal-published poems available here in the future. I will not do this with poems published in chapbooks or full collections unless I either have the approval of the publisher or publication rights have reverted to me.

Most of the poems I had available on MySpace are part of a collection that may be part of a larger project sometime soon. It would be unfair to my potential publisher to keep them online.

Should the project go forward, I am sure the publisher will make some poems available as samples of the collection. I will post any relevant link(s) to them here. Should the project not go forward, I will use this site to make the poems available once again.

I'm fervently hoping, of course, that the project goes forward.
